Southern Nash stomps rival Nash Central, 55-20

Southern Nash posted 42 points in the opening half in a 55-20 victory over Nash Central.

The Firebirds went for it on fourth down from its own 16, and picked up the remaining 84 yards in the process to take an early 6-0 lead.

Southern Nash capped off a 28-point first quarter with a Darius Edmondson pick-six. A running clock followed not long after as the Firebirds increased their advantage to 42-6 with 4:38 left in the first half, and NC State recruit Zonovan Knight started the third quarter with his second rushing score of the night to tack on six more points.

Nash Central’s Byron Hawkins found paydirt with 10:09 left in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs’ first touchdown of the evening.

Knight, Desmon Vick, and Zach Jones left no doubt as the answered Hawkins’ score with a four-play scoring drive to help lead Southern Nash to an eventual 55-20 final.

The Firebirds are 2-0, and will travel to Bunn next Thursday night.

Nash Central is 1-1, and back home for a second consecutive week as it hosts Smithfield-Selma on Thursday.
