South Granville remains unbeaten, outlasts Roanoke Rapids 21-7

South Granville improved its record to 8-0 with a 21-7 conference win over Roanoke Rapids on Saturday night.

The first half was full with miscues. The two teams combined for 8 turnovers, 6 personal fouls, and Roanoke Rapids’ kicker hit the upright on two field goals and pulled one right.

South Granville scored first off a Yellow Jacket fumble. Micah Wilkerson took a toss from 12-yards out into the end zone on its first drive of the game.

Roanoke Rapids tied the game up in the second quarter after its defense secured an interception. The Yellow Jackets gave the ball to their big fullback A’Jalon Brown who powered in a one yard score to make it seven all.

The Vikings were able to respond on their next drive when Rashad Logan took a handoff 66-yards to give South Granville the lead heading into halftime.

South Granville was able to control the ball in the second half. Wilkerson scored his second touchdown late in the third quarter on a six yard run to make it 21-7 heading into the final quarter.

The Vikings continued to bleed the clock in the fourth quarter and their defense stopped the Yellow Jackets from scoring to claim the win.

South Granville will travel to Bunn next Friday and Roanoke Rapids will host Rocky Mount Prep.
