Parlez-vous français ?

Nearly 300 million people speak French worldwide. The language of love and of Molière is spoken on all five continents and is the official language in nearly 30 nations, including France, Canada and many countries in Africa. As more than 80 states and governments from around the world come together in Armenia for la Francophonie summit this week, Encore celebrates Francophonia.

For this fete, writer and expert on all things Francophone Stephen Clarke joins Eve Jackson in the studio to talk about the “je ne sais quoi” of the French language, why “merde” is his favourite word and why “le français” could never be the most spoken language in the world.
