Off-duty Fayetteville police officer wounded in shooting

— An off-duty Fayetteville police officer was wounded in a shooting Monday night.

According to a post on the Fayetteville Police Department’s Twitter page, the incident occurred somewhere outside the department’s jurisdiction.

The officer, who was not identified, was being treated at an area hospital. Police did not disclose the severity of the officer’s injuries.

“We ask for your thoughts and prayers at this time for the officer and their family. Our focus is currently on the officer’s full recovery,” a department spokesperson said via Twitter.

Authorities did not say what prompted the shooting or if any suspects were in custody.
