Letter: There’s a reason for plurality winners

Is letter writer Rick Wicks aware that “plurality vote wins” is a constitutional, not a legislative or administrative detail?

Think about why the Alaska Constitution made this stipulation. In 1959, it was enough of a pain in the rear to get every voter in Alaska to the polls once, let alone again for a run-off. Look at the tallies for a number of governor‘s races, especially in the 1980s and ask: How many Democratic governors would have survived an election without the Alaska Independence Party shooting the populace in the right foot every election cycle?
