Hullum scores three times, leads Green Hope over Athens Drive, 33-9

Josh Hullum scored three touchdowns and propelled Green Hope to a 33-9 victory over Athens Drive on Monday.

Green Hope led 7-3 with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter.

Just before the end of the quarter, Hullum scored his first touchdown of the night. Hullum took the handoff from quarterback Willie Taylor and ran it in for the 30-yard score. Green Hope took the 14-3 lead with 8.2 seconds left in the first.

Athens Drive responded with its only touchdown of the game. Myles Coble caught a pass from Cameron Grisel at the goal line and walked it in for the score. The hold on the extra-point attempt was botched, keeping the score 14-9.

Hullum scored his second touchdown of the night on a 20-yard run. He found a hole and ran into the end zone untouched to increase the Falcons‘ lead to 21-9.

Athens was driving down the field on the ensuing possession, but fumbled on a long pass. Green Hope recovered and took over at its own 5-yard line. The Falcons were unable to get anything going offensively on that drive, but the Green Hope defense stepped up.

Mateus Jones picked off Grisel and ran it back 70 yards for the touchdown. Green Hope went up 27-9 with 19.2 seconds left in the first half.

Hullum scored the only second half points in the third quarter. He punched it in from three yards out to secure the Falcon victory.

Green Hope improves to 4-3 and will travel to Riverside on Friday. Athens falls to 2-6, they will host Cary on Friday for Senior Night.
