Durham Rescue Mission equips thousands for start of school

— At its annual Back to School Drive, the Durham Rescue Mission delivered almost 4,000 backpacks full of supplies to needy children.

Volunteers worked through the night to prepare for the event, and families lined up before dawn to benefit.

The rescue mission served breakfast and lunch, and sent families home with bags of groceries as well.

Students could select from donations of clothing, sports equipment like basketballs and soccer balls to go along with their school supplies.

They snacked on snow cones and enjoyed a morning of fun and fellowship.
