Chance for rain, severe storms remains today before mid-week cooldown

The first half of Tuesday will be calm and clear before a threat for severe weather this afternoon, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

“This morning won‘t be wet like yesterday, but an isolated shower could pop up at any point today,” said Gardner.

The area is under a level 1 risk for severe weather starting late afternoon, and Gardner said damaging winds, heavy rain and flooding are possible.

The rain could continue Wednesday, according to Gardner, but most of it should taper off by the afternoon or evening.

Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday before dropping into the low 80 for Thursday and Friday. It won‘t feel like fall just yet, but the temperature difference will be pleasant and noticeable.

By Thursday, the chance for rain in the area diminishes drastically, and the weekend should be mostly sunny and clear.
