Award-winning children‘s author Kwame Alexander brings latest book to McIntyre‘s Books this week

Pittsboro, N.C. — Newbery Award-winning author will stop at McIntyre‘s Books at Fearrington Village this week with his latest novel for young adults – “Swing.”

I‘ve seen Alexander before talk about his work, his writing and his books. He is incredibly engaging, entertaining and inspiring. I highly recommend his readings and bookstore visits. He‘ll be at McIntyre‘s Books at 6 p.m., Oct. 18. The event is free and open to the public. Alexander will be joined by musician and storyteller Randy Preston.

Written in free verse and best for kids ages 14 to 18, “Swing” is a story about best friends Walt (AKA Swing) and Noah who decide to “use their voices to grow more good in the world, but first they‘ve got to find cool,” according to the publisher‘s description.

Released on Oct. 2, the book already is a No. 1 best seller on Amazon. It‘s also No. 4 on the New York Times‘ best seller list for young adult novels. The calls it “lively, moving and heartfelt.”

Alexander also is the author of “Swing,” “Solo” and “Rebound,” which is the follow-up to “The Crossover,” his Newbery Medal-winning novel for younger kids – ages 8 to 12. My kids have enjoyed all of these books.
